Anaerobic digesters (methane recovery)
Docklands has the capacity to collect animal manure from livestock operations such as farms, dairies and abattoirs and recycle it into a valuable energy source.
We use anaerobic digesters (sometimes known as ‘biodigesters’) as a way to recover biogas (methane and carbon dioxide) from animal manure. This in turn produces electricity while reducing the methane emissions which contribute to global warming.
In the process, anaerobic bacteria break down organic material and produce biogas as a waste product. It’s actually a process that occurs naturally in nature and we achieve it through the use of airtight digester tanks. This not only recycles the waste effectively but also controls odours.
